Program Notes

For SATB sax quartet; Approximately 5 minutes performance time

"Assembly Line" is a composition for saxophone quartet that delves into the instrument's range and extended techniques, all set against an ostinato in an asymmetrical meter. The initial chords, rhythm, and the first two sections of the piece were conceived with the idea of movement and progression in mind, reminiscent of the relentless drive of an assembly line.

As I developed these elements, the driving nature of the ostinato became apparent, evoking the imagery of an assembly line's constant motion. This inspired me to align the composition with a mid-1950s video of factory workers, capturing the era's industrious spirit and giving the piece its title.
